TGCs Community Energy Action Plan is a pilot project that is building on the success of past projects by encouraging participants to learn about energy conservation and act to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by focusing on what TGC calls the five pillars of energy conservation : behavioural changes, transportation, home retrofits, appliance upgrades and green power. Children, parents and community members are engaged in an awareness-building effort which is seeing neighbourhoods within the community challenge each other to further reduce their energy consumption.
For this pilot project, which is generously funded through the Ontario Ministry of Energy's Community Conservation Initiatives Program , TGC is working with two Toronto communities: one in the Lawrence and Yonge area and the other in the Lawrence and Allen area . The goals of this project are to build awareness about energy conservation and to work together to reduce energy consumption.
